An Heir for Pemberley A Pride and Prejudice Variation Short Story edition by Jane Grix Romance eBooks
I loved the opportunity to take an imaginary look into an intimate and tender time in the Darcys' marriage. It played out in a manner in keeping with the personalities of Darcy and Elizabeth. The author mentions having researched the subject of childbirth during the early nineteenth century, and that is evident in the story. It is possible that some readers will mention regret that the story wasn't longer, but the length was a perfect short read for me today. Sometimes less is more.

An Heir for Pemberley A Pride and Prejudice Variation Short Story edition by Jane Grix Romance eBooks Reviews
This is a very short and sweet story by Jane Grix. We see into Darcy's head as he awaits he arrival of his first child. Elizabeth does her best to maintain a calm facade so hat Darcy does not detect the range of emotions winding through her. I wish that Ms Grix would have made it longer. She did mention in her newsletter that she is working on something longer. I always look forward to Ms Grix's work.
It was extremely short but well done. Darcy—as to be expected—was the worrying, doting husband concerned for Elizabeth and the babe to be born. At this time in history, childbirth was rather hazardous for a woman for a number of reasons, and Darcy's concern was reasonable.
Nice little story. Would have liked a little bit more, but Ms. Grix did a nice job.
This short story was a pleasure to read. I found it gentle for the most part and appreciated the positive outlook on delivery.
SPOILER alert and one criticism.
I thought that...given this is a Very short story that states in its description that is a romance and a go-to read for a quick trip to recency time... The story could have done without the mention that they had decided to kill his mother's last baby. Tragedy like that need not be told in a super short romance.
This was a really sweet short story about Darcy and Elizabeth that takes place during the day when Elizabeth gives birth to their first child. The author does a good job of showing Darcy's fears about losing Elizabeth as well as the love that they share. This was a fun quick read that I am sure to read again.
This is a nice story, if a bit familiar. I have read quite a few full length JAFF novels that included similar scenes.
Darcy's anxiety is understandable, considering his mother's difficulty with childbirth and the realities of that era, when the mortality rate was so high for both the child and the mother. Elizabeth feels the same. Both do their best to shield their concerns from the other.
This works well as a self contained short story. At only 17 pages, it is a VERY quick read, even for the slowest of readers.
Yes, this was a free offer on and a very easy, quick read with nothing out of the ordinary as far as what you would expect in reading about the birth of Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s first child.
On one hand Darcy’s mother had not only rare pregnancies in most stories but also suffered with and died from complications resulting from Georgiana’s birth and delivery. While on Elizabeth’s side we have Mrs. Bennet with five healthy daughters and no ensuing problems following those births. Our loving couple does try to comfort and reassure each other, as we would expect.
Thus we read mostly of Darcy’s pacing, his thoughts and his worries about Elizabeth and what is going on out of his sight. But you do know that there will be a happy conclusion no matter how long the travail.
I think this delivered exactly what the title implies. The reader gets a chance to see Darcy and Lizzy four years after they're married. They are fun and playful just as you would hope. Even Darcy's cold demeanor is evaporated and the two are more in love than ever. The day of their child has arrived and you are pulled into their journey. My one complaint is that it is implied that Lizzy keeps separate rooms. It is always heartbreaking to me when an author makes this mistake. This is a couple that are deeply in love upon the own authors admission and they describe Them as keeping to their own rooms with visits. It kind of throws a bucket of ice water on the scenario. Even though it may be common practice for the time period D&E are anything but typical or traditional. They are the exception!! Enjoy!
